How do you feel, when you speak to some one, with whom you were associated in your prime / youth life at Indian School of Mines between 1966 to 1971, and that you are able to get connected after 4 long decades:

It was 23rd Feb '2011, my call to Shashi's home was picked up by his wife Mrs Veena Kapoor, fondly I called her for the first time Bhabhi. She wanted to know who is on-line, but I convinced her that I want to give a surprise, if I am at the right home of Shashi Kapoor. She said yes, although I believe she did had curiosity, but possibly I got her convinced, and my question to Shashi was can you recognize who is on the line. 40 yrs time, when some one least expects a call, what a surprise, when I told its Talwar calling!
My ears were glued with phone, and so was Shashi and then there was a tale of old sweet memories refreshed once again as if we were school talking to each other face to face.
Well after a chat of more than one hour, I did chatted with his wife, and exchanged our good will to invite each other.

Recently, I got photo of my dear friend Shashi Kapoor, at 60's I can with confidence, say even I could not recognize him, yes, if seen very closely, there is some resemblance, but that is it. His latest photo is here.
What followed was same day my email, to get an over view of my life, or where destiny took us:

Dear Shashi & Bhabhi Veena,
Hello to you and your family!
What a life, we passed out in 1971, started my job on 01st Jan 1972, worked at Mosaboni until Dec' 1989, and then moved to Zambia from Dec' 1989 to Dec 1999. I was married in 1975, and have three children, two daughters (now moved to there homes) and one son, who has just completed his Masters last yr in Elect Engg and started his new job last year.
It was Mosaboni Mine which built our career both experience wise, and also academically as company sponsored me to Imperial College of Science & Technology / Royal School of Mines for my P G in Engg Rock Mechanics.
When I moved to Zambia, in Dec' 1989, my role was U/G Mining Specialist / Consultant etc. This was the place where we enjoyed our stay and earned good monies and lost also substantial monies of our life savings etc.
Time had come to leave Zambia, so we came here to New Zealand on holiday in Nov/Dec' 1996, and finally migrated to Auckland, NZ. My family settled here in Auckland in the year i.e Nov/Dec1996 to March' 1997, my elder daughter joined us here in Aug/Sept ' 1997.
I had been in touch with few friends, namely N S Dhanota (Ex-ISM), A B Deoras (Ex-ISM) , R P Prashara (ex-ISM) etc, along with our class mates, O P Arora (now do not have his contact details, is in Bombay or N Delhi), M S Sandhu (lost contact with him),R K Diwedi (lost contact with him when he left Mosaboni some time in 1973/74 etc.
Well yup Subash Jain is settled in Houstan, USA and Vijay Kumar (settled in Melbourne , Aussie), and more recently with Harsh V Sharma who is in Indonesia, S J Sibal I know he is retired from DGMS.

IT WAS INDEED AN OUT OF BOX SURPRISE TO TALK TO YOU AFTER 4 DECADES. LOT OF WATER HAS FLOWN DOWN RIVER GANGA SINCE WE PARTED OUR WAYS IN 1971 AT ISM. BUT THOSE SWEET MEMORIES OF OUR ISM DAYS ARE STILL FRESH IN MY MIND. MEETING THROUGH TELE-CON TODAY MORNING TRANSPORTED ME 40 YEARS BACK. EACH FRAME OF SCHOOL DAYS FLASHED IN MY MIND.
I WILL NARATE MY JOURNEY STARTING BACKWARDS FROM 2011. HAPPILY SPENDING WITH MY WIFE AT HYDERABAD FOR THE LAST TWO AND HALF YEARS. I HAD NO INTENTION TO SETTLE DOWN AT HYDERABAD. IN JULY 2008 MY DAUGHTER WAS DOING M. D. IN OSMANIA MEDICAL COLLEGE.JUST BEFORE MY RETIREMENT IN JULY 2008 WHEN I WAS PLANNING TO GO BACK TO MY ROOTS –JAMMU- SHE EMOTIONALLY TOLD ME TO STAY BACK AT HYD. MORE SO WHEN HOUSE WAS ALREADY CONSTRUCTED IN 2003. ONCE SHIFTED TO HYD I STARTED LIKING THE PLACE. AND NOW NO TURNING BACK.
As regards myself – after PGPT ship I headed back to my home state J&K in 1973 to work in coal mines. Got married in 1974—mines were nasty which prompted to leave in 1977 when I joined Singareni Collieries co. Ltd. Worked in highly mechanized under ground coal mine with shuttle car-joy loader ; side dump loaders ; road headers ; Long wall ;open cast coal mines with dragline. Did some two years stint in planning & design of coal mines and then asked to establish a new department on Environmental Planning in Coal Mines.
During 1992 I did my PG diploma in Environmental Sciences from Andhra Univ. sponsored by my Co. In 1994 I was sent to UK- Prince of Wales Univ. Aberystwith for 3 months advanced course in Mining Environmental Management- with some two weeks at Cheltanham and excursion trips to Manchester, Bradford, Birmingham and North Wales.
I was heading my Co.’s Land acquisition wing as also Forest land Diversion and Rehabilitation Wing .Last four years-2001-04, I was Chief of Safety and Rescue Organization of SCCL when I was sent to Australia in Nov' 2005, to China in Sept' 2006 & USA-Pittsburgh in Dec' 2006.
I have two children - elder one is my son Anshuman , born Oct 1975, who completed his two Masters degrees from BITS-Pilani in 1999 & went to Cyprus the same year to join MNC soft ware co. With in a year he was shifted to Dallas –Texas, USA by the same co. He continues to be there with his wife and +3 years old son On Feb 3, 2011 he is visiting Sydney for 3 weeks to activate his permanent Australian residency. His brother in law is in Sydney. My 2nd child is daughter 1979 born name Anchal. She did her MBBS from Govt. Medical College, Warangal in 2003 and M.D. from Hyderabad. I performed her marriage in Aug 2009. She moved to Pune with her husband and working there in Lata Mangeshkar super specialty hospital. Her husband is a Mechanical Engineer
My wife is MA Med and was teaching till 1996. She left teaching due other preoccupations.
I hung my boots finally on 31st July 2008 with promise to my children not to work any more.
But Talwar old habits die hard. I am still active only as faculty but not on regular basis. I don’t want to tie down myself now and wish to be a free bird.
During the course of my active service I was in touch with Sandhu, Sibal, Tejinder, and Grewal. I was in touch with Arora up to 1989 .Later no trace of him. Of late P.K.Sharma is also in touch.
In the year 1982 at Nagpur, I met Subash Jain & D.S.Mathur at Nagpur in 1982 and later I met Deepak Gupta in 2007.
Let’s be in touch to share not only old association but what happened during the course of our professional journey. We may meet as and when mutually convenient.
